Camila Cabello With a Message About Body Image After Paparazzi Photos

Camila Cabello

There’s a widely accepted belief that celebrities live the high life 24/7. With fame, however, comes great scrutiny, and that holds especially true when it comes to body image. Celebrities are expected to perform at their finest and look their best each time, all the time. But that’s not how it works in real life, and when the paparazzi recently took pictures of Camila Cabello on the beach in Miami, the “Havana” singer was quick to share her thoughts on the topic of body shaming.

An Emotional Message From Camila Cabello

The singer has long been an advocate for women’s empowerment and changing the stigma surrounding body image. Her recent statement on Twitter only reinforced her efforts. Cabello was upfront about knowing there would be paparazzi at the beach when she went there, and she purposefully decided to dress up in a cut-out bikini. Her goal was simple — don’t let the haters make her question how she sees herself and how she carries her body.

Every time she’d feel “vulnerable and unprepared,” she’d wear a tight bikini and completely ignore the paparazzi. She’d then see the pictures online and get “so upset.” But she tries to constantly remind herself that she’s her own person and refuses to follow a culture that has a completely unrealistic idea of what a healthy woman’s body looks like.

What Is “Healthy” Really?

Knowing there would be paparazzi at the beach, Cabello shared that she went prepared — she hardly ate anything the whole day, put on a “cute outfit,” some lip gloss… and had the worst time of her life. Trying to keep her core abs tight the whole time so she looked good in photos and barely smiled – the singer realized she’d had enough.

Just because “we see pictures of women and praise them for looking good” or healthy, it doesn’t mean their mental health is stable. In her tweet (paired with a selfie of her at the pool), Cabello questioned society’s version of what it means to be healthy, especially when you are so fixated on what your body looks like instead of enjoying your time and your life. Fortunately for her fans, Camila Cabello is trying to do the latter!
