Japan Is Bigger Than You Think

You've probably seen an inspirational poster here or there promising that "knowledge is power." Then again, that can actually have some meaning to it. Student midwife here. I've delivered babies and all which is all wonderful. But my most gratifying moment was when I was on the post natal ward in my first year of study and I recognised a baby wasn't breathing and commenced CPR and called for help. Very rare for a baby to just kind of stop breathing especially after being already a day old, and as a first year student I'm so happy that I didnt just freeze When they were still a midwife, this person was faced with a situation that they didn't expect. However, they jumped in and put their knowledge to use without hesitation which is a pretty impressive feat for a situation that would lead many people to panic and freeze.

Remarkable Population Dispersion

Everyone has parts of their job that give them some sort of feeling that tells them if they're in the field for them or not. This was a regular heartwarming occurrence that made it all worth it. I am a nurse on a labor/delivery/postpartum/special care nursery unit. My very favorite part of my job is when I'm the nurse who goes to deliveries to be in charge of the baby (making sure he or she transitions okay to being outside the uterus). I get to see the faces of new moms and dads the instant that they meet their new baby. It's awesome. For this nurse, nothing could really beat the feeling of seeing new parents' faces as they had the chance to look at their baby for the first time. We imagine work on a maternity/nursery unit could get rather stressful, so it's great to hear some of the rewarding aspects of the job.
